I’m really happy to be taking Hindi at the U now that I’m home, but sitting in night class for 2 1/2 hours 2x a week talking about India makes me well, miss India… a lot.
I miss.. bucket showers, and dal bati, my eternally dirty feet, sharing bidis with cab drivers, stargazing from the roof in devgarh, fresh nimbu and guava and mango and kela. I miss my american friends who are still there, i miss khana bhai and 10 chapati narayan bia.
I’m still having a hard time shaking the post USA return blues. My visa is good until July… and if I had the cash I’d be back in a heartbeat.

“A true revolution of value will soon cause us to question the fairness and justice of many of our past and present policies. We are called to play the Good Samaritan on life’s roadside; but that will be only an initial act. One day the whole Jericho road must be transformed so that men and women will not be beaten and robbed as they make their journey through life. True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it understands that an edifice that produces beggars needs restructuring. A true revolution of values will soon look uneasily on the glaring contrast of poverty and wealth.”—Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
“We’ve become a country that values shareholders over citizens, and it’s this whole bullshit about corporations are people. They’re not. … that’s what’s gotten crazy. You can’t be a person if other people can’t kick your ass.”—Jon Stewart, The Daily Show (via madelinelime)
